“Tortured” – Victoria Spry survived and tells her story

Victoria with book - Tortured

As a child, Victoria Spry was brutally beaten, neglected and starved by the woman she called Mummy.

To the outside world, Eunice Spry appeared to be a devoted parent, but behind closed doors she was cruel, controlling and sadistic.

Instead of protecting, loving and caring for Victoria, she forced bleach and urine down her throat, knocked out her teeth, tied her up naked and made her live in squalor.

It took eighteen years of heartache and despair before she found the courage to expose her mum.

Eunice Spry was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Victoria now 28 has written an honest and compelling account of her survival.

Her publisher Ebury released the book “Tortured” today, April 9, 2015.
It is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.

Tortured - Victoria Spry

Tortured – Victoria Spry

Eunice Spry began fostering children in 1984. By 1987, she had added three small children – Alloma, Victoria and Christopher to the filthy family home. She already had two daughters.

At age 40 she was responsible for the wellbeing of five children.

Spry played mind games with the three children given her to care for by social services. She would single out one for affection, playing one off against another and then turning on them all.

She told them they were ‘the devil’s offspring’, punishing them for coming from ‘scum’, and telling them they were abandoned by their biological parents for being ‘evil’.

She controlled who they could speak to at school, warning them not to speak to “worldly children.” When teachers started to ask questions about visible signs of abuse, Eunice removed them from school and took them to live on what Victoria calls the “torture farm.”

With no electricity, heating or running water – at least, not for the foster children. Forced to sleep in the barn, sharing the space with rats, they had to eat chicken feed to survive the enforced starvation.

When Victoria was 18, she somehow gained the courage to tell the police about the many horrors of their existence. Covered in bruises and injuries – Spry had sandpapered her face and chest – it was obvious to all what was going on.

Eunice Spry was convicted of 26 charges including assault and Actual Bodily Harm and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2007. She only served seven years and was released in 2014.

The children she tortured received a life sentence of memories and pain.

Victoria’s health has suffered and this year she was hospitalised. There were days when she was so ill she could hardly lift her head, yet she courageously continued to edit her book and stay in contact with her friends.

Victoria is one very brave young woman who taught herself to read and write; something denied her as a child. She has put herself through college, and her life is beginning to flourish. She has a loving partner and takes great pleasure in her two dogs.

  1. My heart goes out to the young woman and I pray she one days finds peace and learn to forgive the woman who did these things to her. It is not far to harm a child under any circumstance let along a mother daughter one. May Jehovah God bring her peace this I pray in Jesus Christ name…. Amen

    • I can’t believe anyone could write such a ridiculous comment. Did you even read the book???? What that woman did to those children was not simply harm them. What she did was inhumane and unforgivable. Did you think they could meet for a cuppa and all could be forgiven?? I hope that woman burns in hell where she belongs

  2. This is a very, very sad story. How sad for a child to be abused in this way. Let me say this; as a former JW I have heard these stories many times and I know only very little of this in real life when I was a member.

What is to say is this; JW think they are the only ones and the “only begotten” true servants of God and here we are talking about the Israelites God JHVH and we do not know the exacta name but they use a constructed name, Jehova.

Now, taking the God from the Israelites and more and the less the Jews and taking their religion and holy book (what we call the Bible) and make it JW property is so wrong as anything can be.

“When Jesus came” (those beautiful words; “when Jesus came”) he understood the human beings and wanted to transform the Israelites and their understanding of their God JHVH.

He came as God in the body of a human being. He was in a body of flesh, but God in his spirit.

This split up the Jews and some became followers of Jesus. And from that time everybody is fighting everybody to claim “the only begotten religion”.

JW is the smallest and untrue sect and their behaviour is not Christian. It is so far from Jesus as anything can be. So, one good thing for Victoria is; she came out. “she came out”.

Dear Victoria, if I could help you. I have children myself and I have grandchildren. Those small innocents children deserves only our love. I am so sorry to hear your story, but “you came out”.

I will tell you this. I know of children who suffers so much in this world that it makes your story small. They are suffering from all kinds of abuse and what can they do.

I have some rescue program going on for these and to day I (I should say, we) we have close to 200 children we help to get a better life.

So, even this sadness and abuse we face, we do our best to help those in need. I myself was in a state of despair years ago when I was associating with JW, but “I came out”.

I must say this; Jesus saved me. To tell the truth, I know all of JW and I can say to day: it is not true. Absolutely; it is not true.

Now, how can I say this? Because Jesus is love. Just, loving kindness. So, Christianity; true Christianity is love. If it is not love, if it does not perform love it is not Christianity.

Ones Jesus disciples asked Jesus on his question (will you also leave me) and they said; “where should we go”? “where should we go”?.

So dear Victoria, you have been walking in the footprints of Jesus maybe not knowing. Suffering as he did, your body molested as his was, and rejected as he was, but “he endured” as you have now.

    So, here is you destiny:

Jesus will hold you in his arms if you give yourself to him. He will cure you. He will lift you up. He will give you all his love and what he will give you is so much more than what you left.

He will take you pain. He will heal you heart. Just remember; you can come to Jesus and be a part of a family who is tied together with his love. “the love of Jesus”.

I am a Christian to day so Victoria, what can I do to give you comfort from me?

    a friend in Jesus Christ.

  3. I don’t remember the last time I cried so much reading a book I actually had to put it down for a couple of days because I was just too upset to keep reading. You and your siblings are such amazing people I don’t know how you have lived through the torture she inflicted on you and come out the other side as such kind and decent people. I am sending you a massive hug and so much respect Victoria you truly have been to hell and lived there then found your way back and I am in awe of you. Please take gentle care of yourself, Ant, Berry and Noah they are so lucky to have you because you truly are a star xxx

  4. I don’t think I could finish this book in one go without crying. I too grew up in abuse as a Jehovahs wittness familys child I hold much animosity towards the church who didn’t care about us kids knowing full well things where not right . Now as a adult I do phycolgy every week to heal it’s a lifelong battle to forgive and forget and become the person you know you are . Such a strong and inspiring woman Victoria as you help many just telling your story.
