San Diego’s Team 10 Obtains Pedophile Video

San Diego’s ABC News affiliate known as “Team 10” obtained a video that supports allegations that Jehovah’s Witnesses have covered up child abuse among its members and in its Kingdom Halls.campos-case-2a

The video shows a civil lawsuit deposition in 2011. Gonzalo Campos, an admitted serial pedophile and a Jehovah’s Witness considered to be “in good standing” in his Kingdom Hall, testified that he abused several children over a period of 15 years in the 1980s and ’90s.

Gonzalo Campos was also an Jehovah’s Witness elder. According to Team 10 reporters, Campos was never charged with a crime and may never serve any prison time because he fled the country and is somewhere in Mexico.

Reporters were given copies of Watchtower documents and letters that outlined reporting policies for local elders. In most cases, elders were instructed not to report alleged abuse directly to the police, but to first call the Watchtower’s Legal Department for instructions. Based on those letters, protection of the Watchtower’s reputation (not “bringing reproach upon Jehovah’s organization”) was apparently their goal, not protection of Jehovah’s Witness children.
